Description
There’s no end to playing the blues, no definitive version of a song or album. Still, the re-release of Pete Alderton’s breakthrough Living on Love may initially come as a surprise.
Although the album got off to a slow start and mainly spread by word of mouth, after all, it would eventually come to be considered a masterpiece, sell out its entire print run and establish Alderton as a leading voice on the European blues scene. And yet, even a classic can be improved: Without loosing the naked emotional power and raw intensity of the original, the re-issue includes a completely new arrangement of stand-out track “Song for David” and has been carefully re-mastered by Hans-Jörg Maucksch (16 Horsepower, Sara K), adding additional sonic warmth, richness and nuances. There may no such thing as a definitive song or album in the blues – but this version of Living on Love definitely comes pretty close.
